Worship 101

Commonly Asked Questions
Q: What time is worship?
A: Our worship service begins at 10 am on Sunday mornings.
Q: Where do I park?
A: We have three parking lots available for you. You can park in our main parking lot (618 8th Street), as well as our side lot (behind the church on Lafayette Street), and directly across from the main lot on 9th Street.
Q: What can I expect in worship?
A: Our worship service is considered to be a "traditional" worship experience. Our worship includes call and response liturgy, hymns, and anthems led by our chancel choir and played on the pipe organ, children's moment, and a sermon by one of our pastors. Our service often also includes special music pieces from our chancel bell choir and outside musicians. Our service is typically an hour in length.
On the first Sunday of each month, we serve communion, which is open to all who attend worship, not just church members.
Making worship a positive experience for your kids!
At First UMC, we seek to make worship an intergenerational experience! It is important to us that all members of the family can worship God together. A few things you can expect for your family in worship:
1.) Family Ministry Moment - Each week, we have a children's moment led by our Pastors. This is a mini-sermon for the kids centered around the theme or text for the day.
2.) Children's worship bags - We offer activity bags at each entrance on the main floor for children. Each bag contains a Bible activity book, coloring supplies, and other items to help them focus and engage in worship.
3.) Kids Connect - After the children's moment, kids ages 3 to 3rd grade can enjoy a mini-worship experience upstairs. It's a great way to grow in faith! For more details, visit our Family Ministry page.
4.) Children Serving in worship - At our church, we wholeheartedly believe that every child and youth contributes unique value to our worship experience. We encourage their participation by providing opportunities to serve as acolytes, ushers, greeters, and readers during worship. By opening these spaces, we foster a sense of belonging and leadership among our younger members.
