International Missions of First UMC

Mission Guatemala is a faith-based nonprofit working in the highlands of Guatemala in the community of San Andrés Semetabaj. They strive to help meet the basic needs and improve the quality of life of under-served and impoverished Guatemalan peoples.

They are passionate about collaborating with communities to help improve health, education and nutrition. They also work with villages to help with community development and improvement projects.

Friendly Planet takes an adventurous and optimistic approach to very serious issues.  The villages in which we work have been devastated by a brutal war, where machete and rape have been the weapons of choice.  The war in the mountains of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has killed between 4 and 6 million people.  With the diseases that have followed, the death rate continues at the same very high rate.  Every village is struggling to rebuild schools, provide safe drinking water, and fight the killer diseases of Malaria, cholera, and typhoid.

Our Missiology transforms deep suffering into community action.  We work alongside local community leaders as they create unique solutions to local problems.  Each village is different in personality and assets, and yet, all have the kind of creative wisdom it takes to turn their lives around.

While the long range goal is to leverage local assets so that each community is self sufficient, your help provides the tools and the training needed to get things started.
