Columbus history records that in
1837 Methodists began building what was perhaps the first strictly
denominational church in town. This marked the beginning
of Columbus First United Methodist Church. Since its inception,
FUMC has enjoyed a rich tradition of worship. That tradition
continues today some 167 years later.
In the best sense of the word, worship at FUMC is rich in diversity.
From the opening processional hymn through the closing benediction,
one can sense the awe and wonder of the presence of God during
the flow of worship. Though the form and style are fairly similar,
the variety of elements in worship change regularly.
Our music ministry is of the highest
quality one would find in the Columbus area. Dr. David K. Lamb,
Director of Music and Organist, is supported by our Chancel Choir
blessed with an abundance of talent.
Congregational hymns and anthems
range from some of the older familiar songs to some of the more
contemporary anthems.
Mrs. Karen Lion directs the adult
"Chancel Ringers."
Holidays and special occasions offer
us the opportunity to experience a wide range of talented instrumentalists.
It is not uncommon for us to enjoy strings, brass, woodwind,
and percussion in some of our more celebrative services.
During the summer months, FUMC will
schedule many professional guest soloists as our chancel choir
takes a few weeks of rest from their normal schedule.
On the first Sunday of each month,
we share Holy Communion in our traditional worship. All persons
are invited to participate as we receive the bread and cup at
the kneeling rail. Those unable to come forward are served in
their seat. These are especially sacred moments in the life of
the congregation.

Our traditional worship service begins at 9:00 a.m. You will find a warm welcome awaits you at
First United Methodist Church, where all are invited to experience
the love of God.
Please, join us in worship!
